PLACES TO VISIT IN UTTARAKHAND
1) KEDARNATH TEMPLE
Kedarnath Dham Temple, located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, is one of the most paramount locations for worshipers of Shiva. The air appears to be reverberating with the name of Lord Shiva amid the mighty snow-clad peaks, enchanting meadows and forests of the lower mountain range of Himalayas. Situated in a breathtaking location, near the source of Mandakini River and at the height of 3,584 meters, Kedarnath Dham celebrates the greatness of Lord Shiva. Kedarnath temple is one of the 12 Jyotir Lingams and is also the most important temple among the Panch Kedars (group of 5 Shiva temples in Garhwal Himalayas). It is also one of the significant temples of the sacred Chota Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, raising the glory of the place to further heights.

3) RISHIKESH :
The holy city of Rishikesh, in the base of the Himalayas, holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for local Hindus. Sacred rivers and mountains set the scene for yoga and reflective hikes, and rafting here is an absolute must. The Beatles got in touch with their Eastern spiritual side here, writing several songs during a 1968 stint at a local ashram.Rishikesh, also known as the “Place of Sagas” is a spiritual town situated 24 kms upstream from Haridwar, at the confluence of the Chandrabhaga and Ganga and surrounded by scenic beauty of the hills on three sides. TThere are many temples-some ancient, some new along the river Ganges. The River side is dotted by the ashrams of Sadhus and Sages. Rishikesh represents the site where Vishnu vanquished the demon Madhu.

4) MUSSOORIE :
Established in the Himalaya foothills by a British Army officer in 1820, the "Queen of the Hills" stands above the rest with its deep woods, favorable climate and Doon Valley views. Its name is derived from the berry-covered Mansur shrub found in abundance around this trekker-friendly area. Vestiges of its colonial past are still reflected in the cuisine and architecture. For stunning natural sights, head to Gun Hill or Childer's Lodge, the two highest peaks, or the famous Kempty waterfall.
5) NAINITAAL :
Nainital Lake, a natural freshwater body, situated amidst the township of Nainital in Uttarakhand State of India, tectonic in origin, is kidney shaped or crescent shaped and has an outfall at the southeastern end.
6) AULI :
Auli is a Himalayan ski resort and hill station in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand. It’s surrounded by coniferous and oak forests, plus the Nanda Devi and Nar Parvat mountains. A long cable car links Auli to the town of Joshimath. North of Auli are the colorful Badrinath Temple, a Hindu pilgrimage site, and the Valley of Flowers National Park, with its alpine flora and wildlife like snow leopards and red foxes.Covered under a blanket of glittering snow almost year-round, Auli is one of the most sought-after ski destinations in the world. This enchanting town in the Indian state of Uttarakhand is called ‘Auli Bhugyal’ or meadow, by the tribal people of the region. Surrounded by dense forests, Auli offers breath-taking views of the mighty Himalayas that tower over this district, like sentinels of old. Witness the stunning vision of Nanda Devi Peak, Mana Peak and Kamet Peak as the first rays of the sun hit their snow-covered slopes.
7) DHANAULTI :
Dhanaulti is away from the crowds, busy market places and pollution. Set amidst thick virgin forests of Deodars, Oaks and Rhododendrons, it is an ideal location that ensures absolute peace of mind and soul. The green meadows, towering trees, breathtaking view of the Himalayan peaks.

8) TEHRI LAKE:
Tehri Lake in New Tehri is a budding adventure destination in Uttarakhand with the start of Adventure Sports in Tehri Lake. Uttarakhand Government has been organizing Tehri Lake Adventure Festival since last year. For Adventure junkies Tehri Lake offers a number of adventure sports facilities like Parasailing, Jet Skiing, Paragliding, Canoeing, Boating, Rafting and many other sports. Set amidst the beautiful Gharwal Himalayas, Tehri Lake ha became a new adventure destination of the state.
9) VALLEY OF FLOWERS :
Valley of Flowers is a vibrant and splendid national park reposing in West Himalayas. Nestled in Uttarakhand, this alluring place is famous for its charming meadows of alpine flowers. Endowed with a diverse range of endemic flora, it is picturesque in its beauty. This lush region is also home to some rare and endangered animal species. You may spot animals like Asiatic black deer, snow leopard, musk deer, red fox, brown bear and blue sheep. High in the lofty Himalayas of the Garhwal region sprawls this enchanting valley. Legends believe it to be the place from where Hanuman had collected the Sanjeevani buti for curing Lakshmana. This place has floral pastures, running streams and beautiful backdrop of the mountains.
10 ) DEHRADUN :
Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, is situated at Himalayan foothills. The geographical location of Dehradun is picturesque with Himalayan ranges in view and River Ganges and River Yamuna on either side of the city. Natural beauty apart, the place is famous for the splendid architectural display by some of the ancient constructions.Some of the attracting places of Dehradun include Sahastradhara, Guchu Paani, Lacchiwala, FRI( Forest Research Institute) , IMA( Indian Milatry Academy) etc.
